Outgoing ABC boss Ita Buttrose has delivered a strong message to US President Joe Biden as he seeks another term in the White House.

The 82-year-old said on Stellar’s Something To Talk About podcast that Biden should not seek another term in the next presidential election, which will be held in November.

Biden is likely to face Donald Trump, 77, in what is shaping up to be a rematch in 2020.

Ms Buttrose made the comparison when speaking of her own decision not to seek a second term in her role as chair of the public broadcaster.

After a six-decade career in the industry, Buttrose informed the government last August that he was resigning.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has since appointed Kim Williams to replace Buttrose as ABC chairman.

Williams, a former AFL commissioner and former boss of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp Australia and Foxtel empires, was named the public broadcaster’s new boss in January.

“Kim fits the role perfectly, it’s almost like he was made for it,” Albanese said.

“He is as comfortable running media companies as he is arts organisations, and in fact he is a former commissioner of the AFL, so he is also involved in sport.”
