Outgoing ABC boss Ita Buttrose has delivered a strong message to US President Joe Biden as he seeks another term in the White House.

The 82-year-old said on Stellar’s Something To Talk About podcast that Biden should not seek another term in the next presidential election, which will be held in November.

‘D“Even though (US President) Joe Biden thinks he should run for another term, I don’t think he should,” he said.

‘You have to know in yourself when you need to step aside. I felt that. She had nothing to do with any current events.

The 82-year-old said Biden should not seek another term in the next presidential election, which will be held in November.

“Sometimes you need to look at yourself and say, ‘I’m a person of a certain age and everything is fine, and cognitively I’m fine,’ but still weigh it.”

Biden is likely to face Donald Trump, 77, in what is shaping up to be a rematch in 2020.

Ms Buttrose made the comparison when speaking of her own decision not to seek a second term in her role as chair of the public broadcaster.

After a six-decade career in the industry, Buttrose informed the government last August that he was resigning.

Communications Minister Michelle Rowland said at the time: ‘Mrs Buttrose is a giant of Australia’s media industry and the Government thanks her for her exemplary service as chair of the ABC.

“He has a lot to do in the remainder of his term and will leave ABC stronger than when he was given the role in 2019.

“She led the public broadcaster through a challenging period that included strident political criticism, the Covid-19 pandemic and the ABC’s ongoing transformation so it can remain an essential part of Australian life in the digital age. “.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has since appointed Kim Williams to replace Buttrose as ABC chairman.

Williams, a former AFL commissioner and former boss of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp Australia and Foxtel empires, was named the public broadcaster’s new boss in January.

“Kim fits the role perfectly, it’s almost like he was made for it,” Albanese said.

“He is as comfortable running media companies as he is arts organisations, and in fact he is a former commissioner of the AFL, so he is also involved in sport.”

“I can’t think of many Australians who have studied composition in Italy and been AFL commissioners. “Kim is a true renaissance man.”
