The hospital has launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

Dr Nandkishore Jatav, who operated on the patient, said: ‘A patient with abdominal complaints came to us after first going to the Mission Hospital, where the doctor refused to treat him. He then visited the district hospital.

‘After a thorough examination, it was discovered that the patient had a very high blood sugar level (544 mg/dl). In this case, the procedure was completed once the sugar was under control after administering medication.

‘In addition, the large intestine was ruptured, but it was healed and, for the moment, the anus was formed through the stomach.

“During the examination it was discovered that a pumpkin had been introduced into the rectum. After being admitted, the membrane was ruptured during the procedure.”

Doctors said that during the procedure, a membrane ruptured, leading to complications.

With the help of two additional doctors, a pumpkin measuring approximately 45 centimeters long was successfully removed, according to Jatav.

He added: “The vegetable was about a foot and a half long.”

They said the elderly man is currently in stable condition and recovering well under the care of doctors.
