- Australia among the countries losing this option
Netflix will drop its basic package in Australia, which will be a big blow to subscribers.

Netflix to abandon its basic package in Australia, a big blow for subscribers
The streaming service said the change would take effect in Austria on Monday, October 23.
The move comes as the company seeks to increase its advertising revenue by locking customers into streaming packages with ads.
The company said in a statement announcing its financial results that the move to increase revenue by including ads on its subscription options was crucial to its operations.
The platform’s “Basic with Ads” plan was only introduced in Australia in November 2022, following its initial launch in Canada and Mexico on November 1.
