Oregon Ducks star Spencer Webb’s girlfriend gives birth to a baby boy eight months after his death

Date:

Late Oregon football player Ducks Spencer Webb’s girlfriend, Kelly Kaye, has given birth to their first child, eight months after he died following an accidental fall.

Kay, who is originally from Tennessee, shared a series of photos on Instagram, including one of her baby spider, who was wrapped in an Oregon Ducks blanket.

I wrote “Spider Web,” along with the spider and web emoji. “3/30/23.” Webb’s nickname was Spider.

A second photo showed her late boyfriend’s T-shirt – which read “Webb 18” on it – pinned next to a large letter W with two balls, while the last post was an image of a newborn’s footprints.

Kay announced she was expecting Webb’s first child via Instagram in August — one month after he tragically passed away during a horrific rock-climbing accident — noting that she and Webb “were born an angel before heaven had one.”

“We created an angel before heaven had one,” she wrote, along with a slew of photos that showed her looking up at the sky as she uploaded her ultrasound.

All you ever wanted was to be a father. I know you will be the best from above.

Kelly said it’s “unbelievable” she has to “do it without him,” but added that “knowing she’s going to get a piece of him keeps her going.”

Webb died after falling and hitting his head on rock slides at a popular swimming lake near Eugene, Oregon, last July.

The 22-year-old, who was expected to play his fifth football season at the University of Oregon last fall, was found about 100 yards down a steep lane at Triangle Lake.

A sheriff’s spokesperson said Webb had been rock climbing before his fall.

Webb was also a social media star. His TikTok account, where he often posts about his life and athletic achievements, has more than 550,000 followers.

During his four seasons at Oregon State, Webb recorded 31 receptions, 296 yards, and four touchdowns. His first career touchdown was arguably his most famous play, a 20-yard catch to a defender on a ball thrown by Justin Herbert in the 2019 season opener against Auburn.

Nicknamed “The Spider,” the player was a consensus four-star finisher from Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento. the Top 10 and Top 300 Prospects by ESPN, Rivals, and 247Sports; and the No. 1 tight end in California by ESPN and 247Sports in 2018, The Register-Guard reports.

Several Oregon State coaches and players acknowledged Webb’s death on social media Wednesday night.

“Full of life every moment of the day,” Oregon State football coach Dan Lanning wrote in a tweet. Spencer, your smile and energy will be missed. I love you!’

Like his late grandfather, Donald “Speedo” Webb, Spencer was a multi-sport athlete. The Oregonian/OregonLive reported that he was invited by Oregon State men’s basketball coach Dana Altman to the team at least as a practice player when the Ducks were depleted by injury during the 2018-19 season, but did not end up joining the team.

Webb is survived by his older brother, Cody, who became Spencer’s legal guardian 10 years ago, his sister-in-law, Alicia, his aunt and uncle, who all helped raise him.

In a tragic coincidence, Webb’s death came 14 years to the day after Oregon State freshman football player Todd Doxey drowned during a tube ride with teammates in the Mackenzie River.
