“I mean, I don't like Trump,” said one interviewee. “But if they want to leave, fuck them.”

Everyday Americans all expressed a similar message to celebrities planning to flee the US because of President-elect Donald Trump during interviews with DailyMail.com.

Following Trump’s landslide victory over Vice President Kamala Harris earlier this month, a handful of celebrities — including America Ferrera, Cher and Sophie Turner — expressed their desire to pack their bags and drag themselves out of the country.

But ordinary Americans on the streets of New York City have a different view of the future absence of the A-listers.

“I mean, I don’t like Trump,” said one interviewee. “But if they want to leave, fuck them. Let them leave.’

New Yorkers expressed their opinions on the issue during the interview, noting that there are most likely other countries that offer a more peaceful living environment, while at the same time wondering what would change for those saturated with influence.

“If they have power, privilege and money, maybe they should do something to help the community around them instead of just running away,” said another resident.

While some residents believed that celebrities have enormous influence over voters during major elections — specifically citing Taylor Swift’s hold on her loyal fan base — others disagreed, believing their position only focuses attention on the candidates rather than influencing their followers in one way. or the other.

“Where can you get the things you get in the United States in any country,” another resident added. ‘You can’t have it. Especially for freedom.’

Another person told DailyMail.com: ‘I understand if people want to leave because it’s crazy here. But I don’t like it when privileged people with mobility just say: ‘we’re leaving because the ship is sinking.’

When asked if they would leave the US because of the Trump administration, one New Yorker simply replied, “No. Wherever you go, the same problems will arise.’

And another Big Apple resident asked the question, “Where can you get the things you can get in the US, in any country?” You can’t get it. Especially the freedom.’

A host of celebrities have long spoken out against Trump taking office, making some bold promises along the way: If Trump won, they were out.

The responses ranged from playful hyperbole to what sounded like solemn promises — but now that the dust has settled on another Trump election victory, the question is whether the stars will settle into their multimillion-dollar homes on American soil, or leave the country for good to leave. has spiraled again.

Democratic candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris had a who’s who of Hollywood supporting her, with celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey, Bruce Springsteen and Howard Stern supporting her campaign.

Following Trump’s victory, dozens of prominent names in the entertainment industry expressed their sadness, anger and frustration, but none appeared to be looking for their passports ahead of his upcoming term as the 47th president.

Cher told The Guardian in October 2023 that she had health problems as a result of Trump’s previous term, and said that this time she was determined to move from the US under Trump’s leadership.

“I almost got an ulcer last time,” Cher said. “If he comes in, who knows? This time I’m leaving.’ (As of Wednesday evening, Cher had not said anything about her plans on her social media platforms since Trump’s election.)

Girls creator Lena Dunham told an audience in 2016 that she would “100 percent move to Canada” while appearing at the Matrix Awards in New York City in April 2016.

But after Trump was elected in November 2016, Dunham clarified that her previous comments were made in jest and emphasized her commitment to remaining in the United States to advocate for her beliefs.

Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston said in an interview with The Bestseller Experiment podcast in late 2016, stating that he would “definitely move” to Vancouver, British Columbia if Trump defeated Clinton.

‘For me it is not realistic that that would happen. I hope to God that this will not be the case. It wouldn’t be a vacation. I would be an expat.”

After Trump was elected, Cranston, who publicly supported Harris, responded to his statement on Twitter.

“While I am shocked and disappointed by the outcome, I hope the pre-elect will make efforts to unite our wounded country,” he said in November 2016. “I sincerely wish him success.”
