Oprah Winfrey kicks off 24-hour Call To Unite stream for COVID-19 … with Julia Roberts and more

Oprah Winfrey appeared via webcam on Friday night to launch Call To Unite, a 24-hour live stream that benefited COVID-19 help.

During her stint of more than 20 minutes, 66-year-old Winfrey reflected “on what this moment means for us as a family and a community,” alongside the event organizer, Timothy Shriver.

Julia Roberts lent her presence on the occasion, along with an abundance of other famous faces and medical heroes.

Oprah invited author T.D. Jakes and spiritual director Eckhart Tolle to her segment of the stream to endure the trials and tribulations people will experience as a result of the unprecedented pandemic.

“Right now we have the opportunity to take a step forward as a collective consciousness,” said Winfrey.

Winfrey also urged viewers not to consume too much media related to COVID-19, as it is easy to be “consumed by the excitement, hysteria, confusion and constant fear.”

Instead, she chose to “focus on courageous acts” that resulted from the pandemic.

“No one will ever look at a store employee the same way again. No one will ever look at a cashier the same way again. You will never look at a delivery person the same way again, ”Oprah said passionately.

“For each of us who have had this opportunity to reset, I would encourage us to explore in our own way how we can be employed in service to provide justice and joy.”

She added, “And that’s different for everyone.”

Oprah took her point home, with the help of Shriver, by encouraging viewers to find what inspires their inner ‘Call To Unite’.

Roberts hoped to “contribute the joy of story time for children around the world who are now learning from home” as she read her copy of the children’s book Rescue The Princess.

Before jumping into her story time session, Roberts talked about her recent trip to Vietnam and “the inspiring women she met there who had to overcome unimaginable obstacles to get their education.”

“With the support of the non-profit Room To Read, they have successfully mapped out their own path.”

Julia noted that Rescue The Princess is “a reminder that with schools closed in countries where gender inequality exists, girls are at great risk of never returning to class.”

Vocalist Josh Groban, 39, sat in front of his piano segment to perform a moving rendition of his song Granted, which is about ‘taking nothing for granted’ in times of struggle.

“I am very honored to be part of this Call To Unite event and I am also honored to be part of an artistic and musical community that hopefully provides a small amount of peace, comfort and connectivity,” Groban said before he burst into a song.

Former President of the United States, Bill Clinton, uttered some encouraging words and noted the courage shown by essential workers during the pandemic.

“We have so much to do, but I know this, we know that with all the pain and loss, the essential dignity of everyone’s life has been confirmed by those at risk of helping the rest of us,” said Clinton.

Other former presidents Jimmy Carter and George W. Bush are among the expected 200 famous faces to appear during the 24-hour stream-a-thon.

Quincy Jones, Yo-Yo Ma, Jennifer Garner, Common, Maria Shriver, Questlove, Eva Longoria, Naomi Campbell and Alanis Morissette are also on the star-studded list.

Call To Unite is currently streaming live unite. U.S and on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Twitch, LinkedIn and SiriusXM Stars.
