Oprah reveals ‘inappropriate question’ she once asked Sally Field about ex Burt Reynolds, who still makes her ‘cringe’ today

Oprah is one of the world’s greatest celebrity interviewers, but even she has moments that make her ‘cringe’.

The 67-year-old talk show host said on an episode of Rob Lowe’s podcast: Literally! that she regrets an ‘inappropriate question’ she once asked 74-year-old actress Sally Field.

My big mistake: I asked her, ‘Is Burt sleeping with his toupee on? She recalls, referring to the Oscar-winning actress’ relationship at the time with Burt Reynolds.

Regret: Oprah, 67, looked back at an ‘inappropriate question’ she once asked actress Sally Field, 74, on an episode of Rob Lowe’s podcast, Literally! seen here in 2018

‘I even say now, I cringe at the thought of asking that question. But I asked because the producers are like, “You have to ask, you have to ask, you have to ask. That’s what everyone wants to know,” she continued.

Field and Reynolds dated for a number of years in the late 1970s. The legendary actor passed away in September 2018 at the age of 82.

And so I asked, and she got cold with me. She stopped and I couldn’t go back in, ”she added.

“It was like, ‘Whoa, Sally got cold with me on live TV,’” she went on, saying she had had an icy attitude for the rest of the interview.

‘I deserved it, I deserved it, I deserved it because that’s such an inappropriate question … She certainly didn’t answer it. And then it didn’t matter what else I said. ‘

“In the meantime, I still want to know,” said Lowe, 57, laughing.

Winfrey explained that she felt she should ask the star about her relationship: “ From flubs in the world, this was when I was younger and not living from the surrogate’s point of view, but I did feel responsible for asking the questions people wanted. ‘

The West Wing performer co-starred with Field on the ABC drama Brothers & Sisters from 2006 to 2011.

He gushed about the star, but pointed out that he is aware of that other side of her personality.

She’s one of the most amazing actors I’ve ever known, but when Sally gets cold it’s like Khrushchev in the Cold War. She will bury you, ”he explained.

Oprah had previously discussed the sharp question in an interview in 2005 The Today Show.

‘It was a bad question. I wouldn’t do it today, ”she said at the time.
