This relationship came under even greater scrutiny when it was learned that Tatrock was a member of the Communist Party, during a hearing to determine Oppenheimer’s security clearance.
It is revealed towards the end of the film, however, that Tatrock committed suicide, drowning in a bathtub, although a cryptic shot appears to hint otherwise – with a pair of black gloves seen poking Tatrock’s head into the water. ‘water.
The shooting is so fast that some have even wondered if it was really what they saw, and has also led some to draw conclusions that are not suicidal.

Some believe that the black glove swipe is actually some sort of manifestation of Oppenheimer’s own guilt for his suicide, with the black gloves depicting him seemingly pushing her to suicide.
