The Football Association has moved to clear up a bizarre controversy surrounding Jude Bellingham after doctored footage of his interaction with a mascot on Tuesday night went viral online.

Bellingham shone again for the Three Lions as his team drew 2-2 at Wembley against Belgium, scoring the late equalizer with what was the last shot of the match in England’s final match of the international break.

The Real Madrid star stole the show before the start of the match, when he handed his jacket to a mascot in a wheelchair, who had accompanied him on the field and seemed to feel the fury of the rain.

Bellingham was praised for his kind gesture after it was caught on camera.

But a post on

Jude Bellingham shared a touching exchange with a young mascot ahead of England’s friendly against Belgium at Wembley on Tuesday night.

The midfielder took off his jacket and gave it to a mascot while the players lined up in the rain.

‘Jude Bellingham taking the coat off the boy in the wheelchair. Scandalous,” reads the title of the clip, which has accumulated more than two million views in less than a day.

The footage is clearly inverted, as it shows a butler walking backwards unnaturally just out of shot towards the end of the clip.

The user who posted the video appears to recognize it, suggesting he had done it deliberately.

“Clearly the video is backwards and the post is sarcastic, let it rest,” the post read.

The FA have since posted a version of the original footage, albeit taken from a different angle, on their official X account in an attempt to clarify the situation.

Bellingham entered the Wembley field with the young mascot, whose wheelchair bore the Manchester City crest.

While most of the mascots were wearing the purple jerseys that Bellingham and his teammates wore during the game, England’s capes took to the field in their training jackets.

Bellingham was last in the queue, but noticed that the mascot he had gone out with seemed uncomfortable in the cold Wembley rain.

Bellingham appeared to ask the young man if he wanted his jacket before putting it on him.

Bellingham came out to line up for the national anthems alongside the mascot, who was in a Manchester City-themed wheelchair.

He responded by seeming to ask the pet if he wanted his jacket, receiving a nod in response before taking off his coat and placing it over the young man’s wheelchair.

The mascot responded with a wide smile, clearly surprised by the events of the pre-match rituals.

People like John Stones and Phil Foden also gave their jackets to their respective pets.
