Could the Tesla Roadster be the fastest accelerating road car of all time? Elon Musk estimates that he will be able to reach 100 km/h in less than ONE SECOND

Tesla’s second-generation Roadster electric sports car will be unveiled in 2024 and the production-ready two-seater will be astronomically fast, according to Elon Musk.

The CEO of the US electric vehicle maker announced on .

Musk went so far as to declare that “there will never be another car like this” and its incredible acceleration will be “the least interesting part” of the Roadster.

In a series of posts on the social media platform, the Tesla leader said: “Tonight, we radically increased the design goals for the new Tesla Roadster.”

“There will never be another car like this, if you can even call it a car.”

He added that it will be developed as part of a Tesla and SpaceX collaboration, with the “production design” completed and unveiled later this year, with the goal of deliveries reaching customers in 2025.

It previously claimed that an optional rocket booster package, developed with Telsa’s spacecraft project, would propel it to 60mph in 1.1 seconds.

“I think it has a chance of being the coolest product demo of all time,” he added.

The bold statement about the potential performance of the next Roadster would be a significant jump compared to the original specifications laid out for the Tesla convertible when the plans were originally published in 2017.

The CEO of the American electric vehicle manufacturer announced on X that the team developing the Roadster has “radically increased the design goals” for the sporty electric vehicle.

Given that the second-generation Tesla Roadster was originally said to be priced at around £200,000, it would be a tenth of the price of the Rimac Nevera.

About seven years ago, Musk said it would be able to reach 100 km/h from a standstill in 1.9 seconds.

It also claimed it would hit 100 mph just 2.3 seconds later and have a top speed of 400 mph.

And the quoted range was just as surprising, with Musk hinting at a distance of 620 miles between charges.

If the Roadster manages to reach the 0 to 100 km/h target set by the Tesla CEO, the electric vehicle would take the crown as the fastest accelerating road car in the world.

That mantle is currently held by the £2m Rimac Nevera electric, which takes 1.85 seconds to reach 62mph.

Musk has previously blamed supply chain issues for the extended timeline for the arrival of the second-generation Roadster, and also attributes the delay to ongoing development of Tesla’s tri-motor drivetrain and improvements in battery technology.

While Musk commented on the sports car’s performance, he didn’t mention the price.

In 2017, it said the Roadster would be priced at around $250,000 (around £190,000 at the time), which is a tenth of the price of Rimac’s Nevera EV hypercar.
