Charles Leclerc started from pole but eventually finished fourth, behind Lewis Hamilton and Oscar Piastri in second and third respectively.
Hamilton looked the likely winner for much of the race but was ultimately thwarted by his Mercedes teammate.
Russell’s one-stop strategy worked brilliantly as he topped the podium after starting sixth on the grid.
