A police officer and a sheriff’s deputy died after a shooting in upstate New York on Sunday night.

The incident took place near Darien Drive in Salina, outside Syracuse, where officers had been responding to reports of a stolen vehicle.

While investigating, shots were fired and a Syracuse officer was injured, as well as another Onondaga County Sheriff’s deputy.

Onondaga County Sheriff Toby Shelley said one person in the home was injured while another was taken into custody.

Sheriff Shelley said the two officers were in critical condition, and sources have since said Siracusa.com that both have died.

An officer call had gone out shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday, according to dispatches from the Onondaga County 911 Center.

Shortly after, the outlet reported that a vehicle was seen taking people to Upstate University Hospital.

Local media reported that a command center was set up while police inspected the area, while a helicopter was also placed in the air.

Brian Fagan told Syracuse.com that he heard a car tearing through the streets and flew by his house with five police cars behind it.

Fagan said tires screeched as the vehicles came to a stop before four of five gunshots were heard.
