One person has died in a house fire after a house in Burwood burst into flames on Saturday afternoon.
Five fire engines were dispatched to a burning house on Fitzroy Street around 1.40pm.
Around 20 firefighters had to fight the blaze from outside the home until they could control the fire and gain entry.
Police later confirmed that one person had died.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry of Fire and Rescue said firefighters were still busy clearing the remains of the fire late Saturday afternoon.
“Now the cause and origin are being investigated by police and arson investigators, but it’s an evolving situation,” he said.
Burwood station police were at the scene and urged the public to avoid the area.
There’s more to come.
