Doreen Mantle, One Foot In The Grave and Coronation Street actress, dies ‘peacefully at home’ at 97
Doreen Mantle, who starred in the BBC sitcom One Foot In The Grave as well as Coronation Street, has died aged 97.
The actress was catapulted to fame as Mrs Warboys next door opposite Richard Wilson’s curmudgeon Victor Meldrew between 1990 and 2000.
Doreen passed away peacefully at home,’ her agent confirmed Wednesday.
Saying in a statement: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved client and much-loved stage, screen and radio actress Doreen Mantle, age 97.”
He died peacefully at his home. He is survived by his two children, four grandchildren and one brother.’

South African-born Doreen appeared on Coronation Street in the memorable role of Joy Fishwick in 2010-11 before her character became the latest victim of killer John Stape (Graeme Hawley).
His other credits include My Family, Jam and Jerusalem, Dirk Gently, Doc Martin, and Jonathan Creek.
He also appeared on the big screen in 1983’s Yentl opposite Barbra Streisand and 1981’s The French Lieutenant’s Woman with Meryl Streep.
Doreen took the West End stage in numerous productions and won the Olivier for Best Actress in 1979 for her appearance in Death Of A Salesman at The National Theatre.
She also appeared in the one-woman show My Truth and Reconciliation, as well as in the West End hits 84 Charing Cross Road and Billy Liar opposite Ralph Little.
