One person died in a fire in Brooklyn that destroyed an apartment building on Thursday, authorities said.
The fire broke out on the first floor of the four-story building on Prospect Place near New York Ave. in Crown Heights around 8:20 p.m., fire officials said.
Smoke eaters working to put out the flames found the victim unconscious and unconscious in a bedroom, police said.
The person died at the scene and officers were still working to identify the individual Thursday night.
The fire was brought under control around 9:15 p.m., an FDNY spokesman said.
Fire marshals are still investigating the cause of the widespread fire.
