Israeli missiles landed in defense factories in Al-Safira area in Aleppo countryside, causing material damage, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
A soldier was killed and seven others were injured, on Monday evening, in Israeli air strikes that targeted sites in the vicinity of the city of Aleppo in northern Syria, and led to its airport being out of service, according to the Syrian official news agency, SANA.
SANA quoted a military source as saying, “At around 23:35 local time (20:35 GMT), the Israeli enemy carried out an air attack with bursts of missiles from southeast Aleppo, targeting Aleppo International Airport and a number of points in the vicinity of Aleppo.”
The agency indicated that the bombing led to “the death of a soldier and the wounding of seven people, including two civilians, and some material losses and the loss of Aleppo International Airport from service.”
Ammunition depot ignition
For its part, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said, “Several explosions sounded in the area of Aleppo International Airport and Nairab Military Airport in Aleppo, as a result of Israeli targeting.”
The Observatory added that the bombing “caused a fire in an ammunition depot, which led to great material damage at the two airports, and the temporary departure of Aleppo International Airport from service.”
Israeli missiles also landed in the defense factories in Al-Safira area in the countryside of Aleppo, causing material damage, according to the Observatory.
Over the past years, Israel launched hundreds of air strikes in Syria, targeting Syrian army sites and Iranian and Lebanese Hezbollah targets, including weapons and ammunition depots in separate areas.
Three civilians were wounded on the night of Friday to Saturday in an Israeli air strike in the vicinity of Homs, central Syria, according to SANA.
On March 22, Aleppo airport was bombed by Israel, which put the vital facility out of service.
Israel rarely confirms carrying out strikes in Syria, but it reiterates that it will continue to confront what it describes as Iran’s attempts to consolidate its military presence in Syria.
Syria has been witnessing a bloody conflict since 2011, which has caused the death of about half a million people, caused massive damage to infrastructure, and led to the displacement of millions of people inside and outside the country.
