One person has died after two planes collided in mid-air at a Nevada airport on Monday.

The planes collided at around 9:47 a.m. at Minden-Tahoe Airport. Almost a month after another collision claimed someone’s life during takeoff on the same runway.

Authorities responded to the scene after one of the single-engine planes landed at the airport, “while the other crashed in a field” near Highway 395, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said one of the planes, a Globe GC-1B, had one passenger on board, while the other, a Cessna 206, had two.

The pilot and passenger of that plane were reported safe, while the sole passenger died after crashing in a nearby field.

Those involved have not yet been identified and it is unclear what caused the fatal accident.

Witnesses reported the Globe GC-1B caught fire in mid-air before crashing, according to Sheriff Dan Coverley.

The plane was still engulfed in flames when emergency personnel arrived, Coverley added.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have taken over the investigation.

The NTSB reported News 4 An investigator will examine the aircraft and document the scene.

The agency will also request meteorological information, radar data, pilot medical records and maintenance records.

The preliminary accident report is expected to be available in 30 days, while the final report will be completed in 12-24 months.

Another person died at the airport on Aug. 20 around 8:19 a.m. after an experimental plane with two people on board crashed during takeoff, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The plane was a hobbyist-built Lockwood AirCam, the NTSB said at the time.

The airport was closed after the accident and the cause of the collision is unknown. The deceased passenger has not been identified.

On Sept. 8, an aviation-obsessed teenager, her mother and a high school teacher who had been teaching her to fly were among four people killed in a private plane crash in Vermont.

Paul Pelletier, 55, Frank Rodriguez, 88, Susan Van Ness, 51, and her daughter Delilah Van Ness, 15, were named as victims of the crash, all of whom are Connecticut residents.

The plane left Connecticut’s Windham Airport around 8:30 a.m. and landed in Vermont two hours later for a brunch reservation. They had dinner at an upscale restaurant in Basin Harbor and were scheduled to return later that day.

When they didn’t, the families reported them missing, leading to the plane being discovered the next morning in a “wooded area east of Basin Harbor Airport.” The airport is located right next to the resort where the four had just eaten.

Licensed pilot Pelletier taught aerospace and manufacturing at Middletown High, where Delilah had been a student, the school said in a statement.

A family member told police the girl had been taking flying lessons from Pelletier, while Rodriguez, who was also a pilot, was there to accompany them. It is unclear who was piloting the four-person aircraft.
