A British kayaker has died after reportedly getting into difficulty on a French river.
The man, aged in his 50s, was on a group kayak trip on the Durance River near Briançon in southeastern France on Tuesday afternoon around 3pm.
But he ran into difficulties in the water after his kayak capsized, local media report.
Two others jumped after the man to try to save him since he seemed unconscious, according to witnesses.
Emergency crews were deployed, including a rescue helicopter, and successfully rescued two of the kayakers, but the Briton could not be revived after he was pulled from the river.

The man was said to be an experienced kayaker and was part of an organized group of ten people, according to local reports.
He ran into trouble just ten minutes after the group got into their kayaks, reports claimed.
“I confirm the death of a man of English nationality,” prosecutor Marion Lozac’hmeur told the media. Dauphiné Liberé.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into his death.
The water level was reportedly high due to melting snow and could have been a factor in the man getting into difficulty.
