YouTube makes it easier for creators to change the name and profile picture on their channels. Video creators can now update their channel name and image on YouTube, and those changes will nothing but affect their profile on YouTube.
Until now, creators had to change their name and icon for their entire Google account, so their name on YouTube would be the same name that they use to send emails from Gmail. That didn’t necessarily make sense from a brand or professional perspective, and the new system should provide a bit more flexibility for creators who might prefer to send emails under their real name rather than their channel name.
However, there is a substantial caveat to the new feature: Creators with a verification badge will lose their check mark if they change their name. YouTube says creators must apply to receive the badge again.
Both personal and brand accounts can use the new channel name change feature. YouTube says the feature is a “ much sought-after creator request, ” and it is rolling out starting today.
On the desktop, you can change a channel name and picture by going to YouTube Studio and then Personalization, where they are located under the Basics and Branding tabs. On mobile devices, you need to tap your profile picture, then your channel, then ‘Edit channel’.
