A group of passing cyclists jumped into the water to drag the driver out of the submerged car, and emergency teams were rammed to the crash site.

The driver, who comes from the Spanish island, was wounded and hurried to the hospital in Son Espases, where there were no updates about his condition.

He was arrested and detained before being accused of a crime against road safety, reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs – the last fact he would have admitted without specifying the drugs.

The unnamed driver claimed that he had traveled alone, but fireman divers were sent to the wreck to check for further casualties.
