U.S. Olympic sprinter Fred Kerley was tasered Thursday evening before being charged with assaulting a police officer in Miami.
Miami Beach police officers say Kerley, who won bronze in the 100 meters at the Paris Olympics last year, approached a police location to express concern about his vehicle parked nearby.
It is alleged the 29-year-old then became increasingly aggressive and would not continue when officers asked.
Kerley then tried to fight the officers, who called for backup, and had to be tasered as a result. This was reported by the local news channel WSVN.
In addition to bronze in Paris, Kerley also has silver in the 100 meters at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. He is also a former world champion in the 100 meters and has world championship gold medals in the 4x400m and 4x100m relays.
