French pole vaulter Anthony Ammirati has spoken out after his manhood appeared to prevent him from winning a medal at this weekend’s Olympics.

Ammirati looked set to clear 5.70m until a sensitive part of his body prevented him from doing so during his third attempt on Saturday, sending viewers into hysteria on social media.

And after the viral moment, the 21-year-old admitted his frustration at missing out on a medal in Paris.

“I’m a little disappointed, because I didn’t miss anything on the third attempt at 5.70m,” he told the French Athletics Federation website, via news.au.

“What I needed was a few more jumps in training to fine-tune my settings. Just one technical session.”

Ammirati’s unfortunate mistake quickly went viral on social media, with fans laughing out loud after her private parts cost her a spot on the podium.

“Anthony Ammirati failed the exam and commenters are already having a hard time recognizing what happened. Help, I’m dying!” posted one user on X.

“Bad luck, but also good flexibility,” noted another.

“The best way to lose… the ego is still there,” someone else said.

“Oh, he brought that baguette to the games,” one fan said.

Ammirati had already cleared two heights before his manhood ruined his score. He eventually finished 12th with a height of 5.60 in Group A.

Ammirati’s compatriots Robin Emig and Thibault Collet recorded heights of 5.60 metres and 5.75 metres respectively.

Collet, who became the third best French athlete in pole vault history in June after clearing a distance of 5.95 metres, said of his performance on Saturday: “When people say the Games are different, well, they really are different.

‘I thought it wouldn’t necessarily affect me coming in with potentially the third world championship performance of the year, but that doesn’t mean anything.

‘I missed the competition today. I knew this qualification was going to be difficult and now I’m taking it seriously.

‘The Olympics are over. I’m going to pack my bags before I go home.’

The pole vault final will now take place on Monday.
