Earlier this month, the TV Week Logie Awards were criticized for failing to properly acknowledge Neighbours’ cancellation at the ceremony.

But it looks like Australia’s longest-running soap opera will get the farewell it deserves at the next AACTA Awards ceremony.

The AACTA Awards, sponsored by Foxtel, are set to invite the cast of Neighbors onstage and “make a point” to say goodbye, Foxtel’s Executive Director of Drama Brian Walsh told MediaWeek.

“It was a big disappointment for me, especially because we had the cast of Neighbors in the room. What would it have taken for them to get on stage and live their moment?’ said Walsh, who worked as a publicist for Neighbors in the 1980s.

Walsh described the Logies broadcast as ‘dismissive’, adding: ‘If we’re going to celebrate success on a night like the Logies, then for God’s sake let a show that has entertained audiences for 37 years have its moment and take a moment. archery bow.’

The Logies tribute aired a highlight film of Neighbors’ most memorable moments, including fan favorites Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan.

Neighbors alumni Dan MacPherson, 42, and Natalie Bassingthwaighte, 46, then took the stage to present the Most Popular New Talent award.

Both actors had started their careers on the soap opera 10 Peach.

Ryan Moloney, one of Neighbors’ longest-serving cast members, went on to criticize the Logie Awards organizers for not giving the Aussie soap a proper goodbye.

Moloney, who plays Jarrod “Toadfish” Rebecchi, said on Wednesday that he was “incredibly disappointed” by the lackluster tribute put together for the ceremony.

He told Hughesy, Ed and Erin the Neighbors of 2Day FM, who were invited to the Logies, all had bad seats with cameras obstructing their view of the stage.

The 42-year-old Ramsay Street veteran also said it was unfair that two former Neighbors stars, Natalie Bassingthwaighte and Daniel MacPherson, were invited onstage to share their memories of the soap, rather than an actor currently in the series plays.

Moloney said the entire 2022 cast should have been invited on stage to say one last goodbye to their peers after the show was canceled in March.

“Daniel and Nat are just absolutely wonderful people and absolutely nothing against them, but we have people who have been on TV for almost 30 years, and I think the least they can do is make us say something,” he said.

‘I mean, we’re in the blood’ [Logies] Hall of Fame. That’s not how you treat people and a show that’s in the Hall of Fame. I mean, good luck to the Logies, really.’

The final episode of Neighbors will air in Australia and the UK on August 1.
