Move over the central parts, the side part is towards the back.

Celebrities such as Taylor Swift, Kylie Jenner and Olivia Rodrigo are embracing the hairstyle that, until recently, was considered unattractive.

In addition to fitting in with style icons, it turns out that changing your hair can be good for you.

Dr. Elizabeth Geddes-Bruce, a Texas-based dermatologist, said changing styles can strengthen hair and make it less susceptible to breakage.

She explained: “If you style your hair the same way all the time, certain hairs are likely to suffer new trauma.”

“So if you always put your hair in the middle, then you’ll probably always have to flat iron those hairs the most or you’ll get the most heat from your hair dryer, and those kinds of things can lead to more breakage of the hair shaft.”

Taylor Swift’s typical part is on the side, but she has been seen with a center part in her naturally wavy hair several times.

Olivia Rodrigo changes her part frequently, alternating between a side part and a central part.

“Changing it completely can improve the health of your hair,” Dr. Geddes-Bruce said CBS News.

The dermatologist said that by alternating back and forth between a central and lateral part“You’re giving those hairs a chance to rest and not break off or undergo as much trauma…you’re definitely minimizing the repeated exposure of those irritants to those same hairs.”

However, changing the position of the part will not affect hair growth.

But it can help protect from sun damage. If you keep your hair in the same style every day, “that area of your scalp is constantly exposed to the sun’s UV rays and oxidative stress,” Stephanie Sey, afro hair specialist and Nizoral expert trichologist, told Glamor.

“Changing the part will help prevent the skin on your scalp from burning,” Anabel Kingsley, brand president and consulting trichologist at Philip Kingsley, told Glamor.

To get maximum benefits, you should repart your hair every other day, he added.

But you don’t need to make extreme changes to reap the benefits.

Ms Sey said: “Even changing the part moderately by a few millimeters will help, and wearing different hair styles will also reduce stress on the scalp.”

However, if you wear your hair in a tight bun or updo, it could be harmful to your scalp, experts have warned.

Traction alopecia is hair loss due to extreme pulling or pulling on the hair.

It can prevent hair growth by causing permanent damage to hair follicles.

Stress on the hair follicle can cause it to stretch to the point that hair falls out.

Alopecia is a general term for hair loss, while traction alopecia is a specific type caused by constant pulling.

Hairstyles such as braids, tight buns and ponytails, dreadlocks and extensions can cause hair loss.

If addressed before the condition worsens, the damage of traction alopecia can be reversed over time and without putting additional pressure on the follicles.

However, if the follicles are too damaged, hair will not grow back in certain areas and hair transplants may be the only option to restore growth.
