A long-ago tweet posted by Olivia Nuzzi was widely circulated on social media after she was suspended for an alleged affair with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
New York Magazine’s star reporter revealed to editors that she had “maintained a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign,” the outlet confirmed.

However, that hasn’t stopped social media users from being eager to catch a glimpse of Nuzzi. shared an article from NYMag in 2015 and asked: ‘Why does Hollywood think female journalists sleep with their sources?’
Nuzzi did not write the article, but hundreds of users quoted him on Twitter and responded with cruel memes and insults after they also dug up a Kennedy profile where the couple “took a hike” in 2023.

In his profile, Nuzzi described meeting the former presidential candidate at the $7 million California home he shares with his wife.
Many shared similar ironic comments, with one user writing: “Olivia Nuzzi from the future would like to have a say. I can’t figure out if this aged very well or not.”
Some cited his profile of walking with Kennedy and asked, “How was the walk?”
Others used memes that included Garfield and, in one case, ironically used a famous clip of Larry David, who was once fictionally married to RFK Jr.’s wife Cheryl Hines, on Curb You Enthusiasm.
Nuzzi, 31, has been engaged to Politico’s chief Washington correspondent Ryan Lizza, 50, since 2022.
RFK Jr., 70, is said to have met the political journalist when she profiled him last year.
‘Recently, our Washington correspondent Olivia Nuzzi acknowledged to the magazine’s editors that she had had a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign while she was reporting on the campaign, a violation of the magazine’s standards around conflicts of interest and disclosures,’ reads a statement from New York magazine.
‘If the magazine had known about this relationship, it would not have continued covering the presidential campaign.
‘An internal review of their published work found no inaccuracies or evidence of bias.
“He is currently on leave from the journal and the journal is conducting a more thorough third-party review. We regret this violation of our readers’ trust.”
The journalist acknowledged that there was an inappropriate relationship, but did not mention the name of the person in question.
“Earlier this year, the nature of some communications between me and a former reporter became personal,” he told DailyMail.com.
Both denied anything physical happened, with one Kennedy aide saying it was “emotional and digital” while Nuzzi called it “personal.”
“During that time I did not report directly on the subject nor did I use them as a source,” he said.
“The relationship was never physical, but it should have been disclosed to avoid the appearance of conflict. I deeply regret not doing so immediately and apologize to those I have disappointed, especially my colleagues in New York.”
The two met when Nuzzi went hiking with RFK, the father of six, last year for a profile in New York magazine.

A source close to the pair told the outlet that the relationship was “emotional and digital in nature, not physical.”
A source close to Nuzzi told Status that the relationship did not begin until after the profile was published in November 2023. The alleged couple reportedly began dating around the new year.
People familiar with the matter said she did not proactively disclose the affair and that New York magazine only recently learned of it.
In his profile, Nuzzi described how he met with the former presidential candidate at the $7 million California home he shares with his wife.

He painted a portrait of RFK Jr. as an anti-establishment candidate, “who would revolutionize presidential elections.”
“Fear – and denial – is what Kennedy seems to inspire among the staid Washington establishment that supports the sitting president and the underworld establishment that opposes the establishment and supports the former president,” he wrote.
He referred to the conflict in RFK Jr.’s marriage over his appearance on Steve Bannon’s show and those of other right-wing personalities.
“Bannon was just the beginning. Poor Cheryl,” Nuzzi wrote.
At the time the article was published, RFK Jr. was running as an independent candidate, but has since dropped out and endorsed Trump.
Nuzzi’s latest article, in which he described the examination of Trump’s ear after the attempted assassination of Butler, was published in New York magazine on September 9.
This comes amid news that RFK Jr. is under federal investigation after he allegedly cut the head off a dead whale and took it home two decades ago.
RFK Jr. has been married to his third wife, Hines, since 2014. In addition to his six children and two grandchildren, he is a stepfather to his daughter from a previous relationship.
RFK Jr.’s spokesman said he met with Nuzzi on just one occasion, which resulted in a “smear article.”

Nuzzi announced his engagement to Lizza on Instagram on September 22, 2022 with a series of videos showing a massive solitaire cut sparkler on his ring finger.
The couple were set to publish a joint book on the 2020 election, but it has since stalled.
Page six reported that they were having difficulty getting the expected policy scoops and that the Biden team, in particular, was distrustful of Nuzzi.
The book is still available for pre-order for $16.99, though it won’t be available on Amazon until 2027.
Lizza has two children and was previously married to Dr. Christine Gillespie.
He previously worked as a writer for The New Yorker but was fired in 2017 amid a #MeToo scandal after he was accused of “sexual misconduct.”
Lizza called the conclusion a “terrible mistake” that was not properly investigated.
Other media outlets that worked with Lizza conducted their own investigations but found no evidence of wrongdoing.
