A young businesswoman has been criticized for wearing an outfit to a wedding deemed “inappropriate”.
Olivia Burrows Sutherland, from Melbourne, sought advice from her 73,000 TikTok followers, asking what outfit she should wear hours before the event over the weekend.
The 29-year-old bought a $525 rust-colored skirt from Zimmermann at the last minute and wasn’t sure which top to pair it with: a black spaghetti strap crop top or a beige bandeau top.
She opted for the latter since it was a 37 degree day. But in the comments on the posted video, many shared what they really thought and believed that the top “shouldn’t be worn for a wedding.”

He opted for the latter because it was 37 degrees over the weekend. But many on TikTok deemed the top ‘inappropriate’ for a wedding
Olivia, who is a co-founder of MyGlow2 and is known for sharing fashion videos on social media, received backlash as many said the top looked “basic” compared to the dress and is “too white.”
She had the option of purchasing Zimmerman’s matching cropped bra, which costs $475, but thought it would be “too much” for a wedding guest to wear.
Her last two clothing choices were also last minute, as one of the items she bought did not arrive on time and another had long sleeves, which she was not willing to wear on such a hot day.
“I didn’t expect the outfit to be so controversial, but I know that when it comes to weddings and guest outfits, everyone has an opinion,” Olivia said. news.com.au.
“I understand this is not a traditional wedding guest look, however fashion has evolved and two-pieces have become popular options for guests to wear to events.”

‘The skirt is gorgeous, I don’t think the top would be appropriate for a wedding, sorry!’ one person wrote in the comments.
Another agreed, saying, “I wouldn’t wear that top to a wedding.”
A third said: ‘The skirt is stunning. Tops no. They were disappointing.
Another encouraged Olivia to wear the matching top with the skirt.
“I feel like it’s a bit basic, you should really wear the matching top. I’m sure it would look amazing and still be wedding appropriate,” the woman wrote.
Despite the backlash, others said that Olivia looked “amazing”.
‘Beige is absolutely fine, it’s simple and looks beautiful! I think it’s completely appropriate for a wedding! one said.
‘So many negative comments omg! Beige looks amazing with it, wear whatever makes you comfortable,” said another.
‘The skirt has a lot of presence and I think the blouses are appropriate. Either color goes well with accessories,” added another.
