Oleksandr Usyk was released by police at Krakow Airport in Poland after he was filmed being led away in handcuffs, just days before he was due to fly to London to watch Anthony Joshua take on Daniel Dubois at Wembley.

Footage circulating on social media shows the 37-year-old Ukrainian boxer being led away by uniformed men with his hands behind his back, an incident which has now been revealed to have been a “misunderstanding”.

Usyk released a statement shortly after the video circulated online, insisting that “everything is fine” and thanking Ukrainian politicians for resolving the issue.

He said: ‘Everything is fine, my friends. There was a misunderstanding that was quickly resolved. Thank you to everyone who cared.

“Thanks to Ukrainian diplomats for their support. And respect to Polish law enforcement officers, who do their duty despite their height, weight, range of weapons and clothing.”

Usyk was heading to London ahead of Joshua’s big fight with Dubois, which takes place at Wembley Stadium on Saturday night.

The Ukrainian champion is still expected to be there ringside to watch AJ, the top fighter he has beaten twice before.
