Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has once again talked about the talents of Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland, insisting that he is ‘proud’ to have ever coached the Norwegian striker.
Solskjaer took Haaland under his wing while coaching in his home country as manager of Molde, and was instrumental in the rapid rise of the 20-year-old who is now considered one of the world’s best forwards.
And now, having immediately found his niche in Dortmund, scoring 16 goals in the Champions League, Haaland is well on his way to breaking Solskjaer’s record of 20 before ending his teenage years.

Haaland has 16 Champions League goals and is fast approaching Solskjaer’s record
Solskjaer is currently Norway’s top scorer of all time in the Champions League, with John Carew in second place with 18 goals, but the United boss has no doubt that Haaland will beat his total in the blink of an eye.
This week, at his pre-game press conference, ahead of United versus Paris Saint Germain on Wednesday, Solskjaer spoke of Haaland and the goal-scoring record: ‘He will beat it and very soon, that’s for sure.
The boy had a great start to his career.
In 12 appearances in the elite league of football, Haaland has a wild score
“It was really good to work with him, to see the potential in him, and part of me is proud to have been able to contribute a little bit to such an increase.
“I’m sure Erling will score a lot in the Champions League,” added Solskjaer.
The United manager was hotly tipped for a reunion with Haaland when the youngster left RB Salzburg in January, only for Dortmund to steal a march on all rivals and convince the striker that he would develop best at the Westfalenstadion .
Solskjaer is not the only man to be brought in by Haaland. The youngster’s 16 goals in just 12 games in the European elite league have surpassed the likes of Zinedine Zidane and Brazilian legend Ronaldo.
Brazilian icon Ronaldo scored just 14 goals during his time in the Champions League
Brazil and Real Madrid icon Ronaldo managed to score only 14 times in the Champions League during his career, while former French midfielder Zidane also scored the same total.
Haaland has also surpassed David Villa and Miroslav Klose, who both also scored 14 goals during their time in the Champions League.
In addition, Haaland also sits above Carlos Tevez, Olivier Giroud (both 13), Michael Owen, Diego Costa (both 11) Christian Vieri (10) and Dennis Bergkamp (7).
