“I went to see a player once and when he walked out of the locker room or through the tunnel onto the field, he had a mohican, this was when I was back in Norway,” said Solskjaer.

“And I just said to my scout,” Let’s go home, not interested. ” That was a very short reconnaissance trip. ‘

The story emerged after Solskjaer was asked about his first impressions of Bruno Fernandes when he went to see him play for Sporting Lisbon.

‘What you see up close is the personality because you just follow it (Fernandes). I’d rather have Bruno’s fire in the stomach and desire.

“It’s so important for him to win and he makes every decision for the referee, for every teammate. So what was a man who never let anyone rest, he always wanted to be the best. ‘

The United boss was also asked a series of other questions, including which player of the 1999 three-time winners he would most like to add to his current squad.

“They were all incredible individuals in a fantastic team,” he said.

There are some absolute top players out there who would have your skills and attributes for every player – you would want Becks ‘crosses, you would want Giggs’ dribbles, Jaap’s dominance in the back, Ronny Johnsen’s pace, Scholes is everything.

‘You want them all, to be honest, but I’ve always said it and I have to say it again when I choose one player: Roy Keane. He was a leader in everything he did. He pushed everyone. ‘

The Manchester United manager said he would pick Roy Keane if he could pick one player from the 1999 three-time winners to add to his current roster.
