Olas bought Lyon in 1987 when it had been in the second division for four years.
On Monday, Jean-Michel Aulas, the symbolic president of the French club Lyon, stepped down from his position, in favor of the new owner, American businessman John Textor, who will take over as chairman of the board.
Lyon said in a statement, “During its meeting on May 5, the Board of Directors of Lyon Club appointed John Textor as Chairman of the Board, following Jean-Michel Aulas’s resignation from his position as President and General Manager of Lyon Club.”
The statement added, “Textor was also appointed to the position of general manager, effective from the fifth of May, for a temporary period, before the selection of a person to fill this position.”
The group owned by Textor bought Lyon last December, noting that it also owns shares in the English club Crystal Palace and Brazilian Botafogo.
Olas had bought Lyon in 1987 when it had been in the ranks of second-division clubs for four years.
Olas, thanks to his experienced management, succeeded in leading Lyon to win the French League title 7 times, between 2000 and 2008, and was crowned champion of the League Cup in 2001 and the French Cup twice, in 2008 and 2012.
He also launched a women’s team that is considered one of the strongest in Europe.
