Oklahoma police rescued an injured dog from the tracks after it was hit by a train, leaving it stuck on the tracks for three days.

The canine would have lost his life if Wagoner County Deputy Justin Hutton and Capt. Brad Harding had not rushed to save him last week.

The touching moment was captured on police body camera as officers freed the animal from the train tracks and transported it to a veterinary clinic.

Officers closed the tracks to safely remove the dog, and Hutton brought treats to calm the animal.

‘When we got there, he… really wanted to come with us. He did not show any aggression. He knew we were there to help him,” Hutton said. FOX23.

Oklahoma police rescued an injured dog from the tracks after it was hit by a train and trapped on the track for three days.

The canine would have lost his life if Wagoner County Deputy Justin Hutton and Capt. Brad Harding had not rushed to save him last week.

‘When we got there, he… really wanted to come with us. He did not show any aggression. He knew we were there to help him,” Hutton told FOX23.

The puppy was hit by a train on March 24 and was unable to free itself from the tracks for the next three days.

He had no food or water, but he was smart enough to lay his head down whenever a train passed over him, according to Mike Howell, who saw the poor animal and reported the incident to authorities.

Hutton and Howell estimated that twenty trains could have passed over the dog.

When Hutton and Harding were dispatched to the area, they determined that they could not bring a patrol unit to the location of the injured animal.

They requested the Sheriff’s Office to respond to the scene and successfully freed the animal from the train tracks.

In images released by the sheriff’s office, the dog is wrapped in a blanket, shivering, as deputies carry him to a van.

A family member later took possession of the dog and sent it to a local veterinarian for treatment, according to authorities.

Howell, a locomotive engineer, said he reported the incident to police after running over the dog two separate times in two days.

‘Normally we don’t report them because when we run over a dog it usually dies instantly. The second time I passed him and saw that he was still alive, I stopped my train immediately and called for help,” he wrote.

‘I love dogs and it breaks my heart to see them hurt, especially when I was the one who did it. ‘People NEED to keep their dogs away from the railway!!!’

After the video was shared, locals took to Facebook to express their gratitude to the officers who saved the dog’s life.

‘Thank you Deputy Hutton, Captain Harding and LT. Halfacre for not giving up on him. I pray that he can recover. Luckily he has heroes like you and the informant group!’ wrote one user.
