An Oklahoma mother has sued her daughter’s school district after her 15-year-old daughter was attacked by a transgender student in the bathroom, who the school claimed didn’t know was biologically male .

Theresa Gooden said her daughter, who is only identified as EG in the $75,000 lawsuit, was “beaten” by the 17-year-old transgender student in October.

“It’s quite traumatic. It wasn’t a regular fight, it was a beating,” Gooden said. Fox and Friends First.

The student, who was male at birth, was legally not allowed to be in the girls’ restroom, as Oklahoma law prohibits it. Southern State requires people to use the restroom associated with the gender listed on their birth certificate.

However, Edmond Public Schools Superintendent Angela Grunewald said the unidentified student is listed as female in the school system.

“In high school, birth certificates are not required to start school. So there was no birth certificate in the (student’s) file at the time to verify one way or another,’ she said in a video.

“If a parent comes in and registers their child as a certain gender, and when you look at that child by all social standards, they present themselves and present themselves as that gender, that’s not something you would question. ”

However, Gooden and her lawyer Greg Andrews argue that EG informed the school that the transgender student had previously made threats against her and that the student was male. Additionally, the student was reportedly wanted by police for weapons, according to Fox and Friends.

“They knew firsthand at the time that there was a chance it was a boy from what my client’s daughter said,” Andrews told the outlet. “The police report says they had a paternity affidavit on file for the student which identified the boy as male. So the school is lying, and they haven’t complied. I can’t wait for us to be discovered, because that will clearly show that they broke the law.

The mother, who said her daughter was emotionally traumatized by the attack, said: ‘It’s not OK. It was a brutal attack on my daughter because they didn’t follow the guidelines. I expect my daughter to be safe at school.

Gooden is seeking more than $75,000 in damages from the District along with payment of his costs. The lawsuit also says the transgender student “confided” to her daughter that “he was in fact a male student who identified as female.”

EG claims she informed Deputy Director Maryjel Cochrane of the conversation, but court documents claim nothing was done.

Additionally, the lawsuit says the alleged attacker, who was born male, was expelled from school by police after threatening the teen with a gun on October 21.

In a statement, the school said: ‘Because this matter is in litigation, there is little to say at this time. However, Edmond Public Schools is confident that when the facts are presented, it will be determined that the district fully complied with the law and acted reasonably.
