Kat Stewart was once so focused on her career that she believed having a child would ruin her job prospects.

But it was a story from her series Offspring that made the 51-year-old actress change her mind.

In the 2010s comedy-drama series, her character, Billie Proudman, underwent an IVF journey, causing Kat, who was 37 at the time, to think about her own fertility.

“I really enjoyed my job and I wasn’t prioritizing the kids because I knew that would set me back,” she says in this week’s issue of Stellar Magazine.

‘I wasn’t very motherly, to be honest. I’m very grateful to Offspring because he gave me a little pat on the shoulder and said, “Hey, you can’t put this on the back burner forever; here are the stats.”

Shortly after, Kat and her husband, actor David Whiteley, welcomed their first child, Archie.

‘At the end of that series, Archie was on his way. “We were very lucky,” he told the publication.

Kat returned to work just five weeks after giving birth to Archie in 2012 and held her first pregnancy close to her chest for months.

Speaking to Show and Tell, she said: “I was paranoid that if I had a baby, which is probably why we put it off for so long, I would never work again.”

‘I didn’t really tell anyone until I was about five months old. I only told people when I had to, which is weird, but I was a little nervous and protective and wanted it to be our experience for as long as possible.

Kat welcomed her second daughter, Georgia, nicknamed Gigi, in 2016, and took the newborn to work with her on the set of Offspring just weeks later.

Instead of taking a long maternity leave, Kat immediately returned to work. with her five-week-old baby on her hip on the first day of filming.

“I think having them around will only enrich the experience of doing the show,” he said. The Daily Telegraph of having his children on set, which also included Archie, who was a toddler at the time.

“Normally I wouldn’t come back to work this early, but Offspring is a family,” he added.

‘Archie takes his role as big brother very seriously. He is in charge of calming Gigi with lullabies.
