Former Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau has said the best thing President Biden can do to help Kamala Harris win the election is to focus on his final months in office.

Jon Favreau was asked on CNN’s ‘The Lead with Jake Tapper’ if the gaffe-prone president was too risky to go out on the campaign trail.

Favreau, who worked as the White House’s director of speechwriting for four years, told the show: “If I were Joe Biden, his legacy would obviously be at stake in this election.”

‘I would look at the numbers, I would look at the race and say I’m going to focus on being president.

“That’s probably the best thing he can do, not just for Harris’ campaign, but for himself and his legacy.”

Earlier this week Biden had called MAGA supporters ‘trash’ during fundraising call amid Harris’s closing speech outside the White House on Tuesday.

He had been referring to comments made by comedian Tony Hinchliffe, who called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage” at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally.

Biden said: ‘The only trash I see floating around is his (Trump’s) supporters. “His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable and un-American.”

According to an Associated Press report, the White House had altered the official transcript of that call.

The transcript released by the White House press office changed the word supporters. It said “supporters” instead of “supporters” in the plural. This change, according to his aides, corrects Biden’s statement to imply that he was criticizing only Hinchcliffe, not the millions of Americans who voted for Trump.

The vice president flew to several swing states in a last-minute attempt to turn out crucial voters who could help her in one of the closest elections in history.

Earlier this week, Biden had called

Earlier this week, Biden had called MAGA supporters “trash” during a fundraising call in the middle of Harris’s closing speech outside the White House on Tuesday.

Biden stayed away, however, as the 81-year-old spent Sunday holed up at the exclusive Fieldstone Golf Club near his home in Wilmington, Delaware.

He didn’t play, but he had lunch with his old friend and confidant, former Senator Ted Kauffman.

On Saturday, while campaigning in Pennsylvania, he drew attention by criticizing Trump and his MAGA friends as guys who would like to “slap their asses.”

Biden left his agenda light so he could follow Harris’ lead, but his campaign has not been forthcoming. Instead, he has gone out alone.

Harris responded to Biden’s “trash” comments less than 24 hours later and condemned the negative comments about voters.

“First of all, he clarified his comments, but let me be clear: I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for,” she told reporters.
