Two of them are said to be in critical condition, according to Indian news channel NDTV.

After eating, a waiter offered the group a packet of mouth freshener, but as soon as they consumed it, their mouths began to burn, bleed, and they began to vomit.

Police said the mixture contained dry ice, a solid form of carbon dioxide popular for its smoke-like vapor and cooling properties.

Those who fell ill were part of a group of six who had eaten at the restaurant, police said.

Ankit Kumar, a resident of Greater Noida city who was having dinner with his wife and four friends, did not consume the mixture and made the police report, according to The times of the strait.

‘I showed the mouth freshener packet to a doctor, who said it was dry ice. According to the doctor, it is an acid that can cause death,” Kumar said.

Customers said in their complaint that staff members refused to help them.

The case is under investigation and police said they were conducting a forensic analysis of the contents.

A search is also underway for the owner of the restaurant.
