A professional nutritionist has revealed the foods Australians should be eating that could help improve their sex lives.
Claudia Calisto, founder of Total health and well-beingfocuses on addressing sex hormones such as testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone when treating patients experiencing low libido.
Many of the foods Ms. Calisto suggested, including red wine, oysters, and walnuts, also appear in health line List of recommended foods to increase sexual desire.
Fruits and vegetables
His main recommendation to improve sexual desire was to incorporate berries into the diet.
“Berries are rich in zinc, a mineral that can increase testosterone production in men,” he said.
“Plus, berries are packed with antioxidants that are known to increase blood flow to the sexual organs.”

Another fruit that ranked high on the ingredients list was watermelon, as it contains L-Citrulline, a non-essential amino acid that helps improve blood flow, which could reduce erectile dysfunction.
One green Ms Calisto urged Australians to eat regularly was broccoli, as it contains indole-3-carbinol, which could prevent the development of oestrogen-powered cancers, including those of the breast, endometrium and cervix.
Nuts and seeds
Calisto also recommended eating three different nuts and seeds: pine nuts, pumpkin seeds, and walnuts.
“Pine nuts contain good fats, especially good for men who want an active sex life,” he said.
‘They contain arginine, which helps dilate blood vessels to improve sexual desire and could help men maintain an erection.
“Never underestimate pumpkin seeds,” he continued. “They are incredibly nutritious and full of zinc.”
good fats
Calisto advocates a diet rich in avocado and olive oil, attributing certain aphrodisiac properties to them.
“Avocados are considered a natural aphrodisiac because they are high in phytonutrients and help dilate the increased blood flow to the sexual organs,” said Ms. Calisto.
‘Extra virgin olive oil works its magic by activating the hormone testosterone, which induces sexual desire and thus improves orgasms.
Calisto’s list included fruits, vegetables, nuts, and healthy fats that aim to increase sexual desire and improve blood circulation.
Seafood
Also high on the list were oysters, which Calisto dubbed “nature’s aphrodisiac” due to their high level of zinc.
“Did you know that with each ejaculation a man loses about a milligram of zinc?” he said.
“Therefore, this mineral needs regular replenishment if you want to maintain health and good sexual desire.”
Herbs and spices
He also recommended two herbs for their sexual desire-stimulating qualities.
“Saffron is an aphrodisiac spice,” said Mrs. Calisto.
‘Chronic stress alters hormonal balance and can decrease libido. The natural compounds in saffron may help regulate stress hormones and promote a feeling of calm by supporting healthy serotonin levels.
‘Reducing stress levels is a great way to increase libido and overall sexual well-being.
“Red ginseng also reduces stress, promotes relaxation, and greatly improves blood flow to the sexual organs.”
Drinks
The last four spots on Calisto’s list were dedicated to drinks.
“Green tea is rich in compounds called catechins that promote blood flow and can also help reduce abdominal fat,” he said.
One or two glasses of red wine can help increase libido, he said.
‘Great news is that organic red wine helps both male and female libido. It improves the function of the inner lining of the heart and blood vessels and increases blood flow to different parts of the body, including the sexual organs.’
He also emphasized the importance of drinking water and said: “Staying hydrated by drinking water helps keep the volume of blood cells and plasma high, this is necessary for a high sexual desire.”
The last drink Calisto recommended was matcha, powdered green tea.
“Matcha is made from young, shaded green tea leaves and the whole tea leaf is used,” he explained.
‘The antioxidants present in matcha are more concentrated than those in green tea. One cup of matcha is equivalent to three cups of green tea.
“The antioxidants in matcha help blood flow to the sexual organs while maintaining good circulation.”
In addition to food, Calisto (pictured) recommended four drinks Australians should try for better sexual health.
