A nurse at a taxpayer-funded New York City hospital has been suspended after implying she was disappointed that Donald Trump was not assassinated.
Janiece Binns, who works at New York Presbyterian, a medical center used by Columbia and Cornell universities, said in an online post just hours after the attack: “Bro, work on your skills.”
Binns, who appears on social media wearing an LGBT face mask and has shared pro-Palestine content, shared a post on his Instagram Story in which he called the would-be Trump assassin “the most hated idiot on the planet” for disappearing.
A spokesperson for New York Presbyterian told DailyMail.com that Binns had been suspended while the hospital launches an investigation. Her comments sparked a furious online backlash from people who said she violated the health care workers’ oath to “do no harm.”
This comes as several university staff members, health care workers and other professionals are under investigation for similar comments mocking Trump or endorsing the shooting.
The image above shows Janiece Binns’ post on Instagram Stories. She has since deactivated her social media accounts.
Binns had also posted a call for a free Palestine online and was photographed wearing an LGBT mask.
A spokesperson for New York Presbyterian told the website: ‘This individual has been suspended from his duties while this matter is investigated.
‘Our values focus on respect and care for all our patients, colleagues and communities.
‘Words, images or actions that advocate, celebrate or amplify violence violate our policies and will not be tolerated.’
Her comments sparked a furious online backlash against the hospital, with many demanding she be removed from her position.
One user said: “Imagine receiving care from a woman who would wish you dead if you voted differently than her. That blows my mind after working with so many great nurses.”
And a second said: “Can you imagine what she would do to a patient if she found out they were a Trump supporter? She should not be in a position to care for people when a human life means so little to her. Do better.”
Nurses must be impartial in their profession and treat all patients equally.
The American Nurses Association, which upholds the standards of the profession, says online as part of its ethical code: ‘Justice in nursing relates to impartiality with respect to the patient’s age, ethnicity, economic status, religion or sexual orientation.’
Thomas works as a respiratory therapist in Florida, helping patients breathe properly.
O’Donoghue deleted his social media accounts following the online comments.
New York Presbyterian is one of the largest hospital systems in New York City, with 2,600 beds and treating approximately 300,000 patients each year.
It also has a midwifery unit, which assists around 15,000 births each year.
Binns shared his comments on Instagram, which were then re-shared online at the hospital, prompting immediate backlash.
She has since deactivated her social media accounts and DailyMail.com was unable to contact her for comment.
Several other medical workers have also taken to social media to express their disappointment over the Trump shooter’s blunder.
Other health professionals have also taken to social media to express their disappointment that the shooter missed Trump.
Thomas O’Donoghue, who works at Lee Health medical centre in Florida, said on X, formerly Twitter: “It’s a shame he couldn’t.”
It was in response to a post by Donald Trump Jr., who posted a clip of CNN calling the news provider a disgrace.
O’Donoghue is a respiratory therapist who helps patients learn to breathe properly after an injury or illness.
One viewer wrote online in response: “He is in the position to determine whether people live or die and that makes me very, very angry as he is so willing to voice that opinion.”
O’Donoghue has since deleted her posts and social media accounts.
In another case, a lab assistant at OSF healthcare services in Illinois also said: “It’s a shame they didn’t catch it.”
The individual was Ryne Arnett, who then shared a second post claiming he had been hacked, leading up to the post. He did not provide any evidence to back up the claim.
DailyMail.com has contacted his employers for comment.
This is a developing story…
