Former President Joe Biden has issued a staggering number of presidential pardons during his time in the White House.
In total, the 82-year-old has granted 8,064 pardons during his term, including 6,500 in the form of sweeping pardons for those convicted of marijuana possession.
Aside from recently deceased former President Jimmy Carter, who pardoned more than 200,000 individuals for draft dodging, Biden has spent the most.
By contrast, his successor, President Donald Trump, issued just 237 in his first term.
The only former sitting president to come close, aside from Carter’s mass pardon, was President Andrew Johnson, who granted 7,654, making him among the highest.
President Obama issued 1,927 during his time, the most for any two-term president since Franklin D. Roosevelt, who pardoned 3,687 people.
Other figures include Lyndon B. Johnson with 1,187, Dwight D. Eisenhower with 1,157 and Herbert Hoover with 1,198.
Just minutes before President Trump was formally sworn in as the new commander in chief on Monday, Biden also saw fit to pardon members of his family.

He granted preemptive pardons to James B. Biden, Sara Jones Biden, Valerie Biden Owens, John T. Owens and Francis W. Biden.
His brother James Biden was involved in the House Republicans’ impeachment inquiry against Joe Biden, which ultimately went nowhere.
Biden also pardoned James’ wife, Sara; his sister, Valerie; her husband, John; and his younger brother, Francis Biden.
The pardons were far-reaching and covered all their ‘non-violent’ actions from 2014.
Biden said his family was subjected to relentless attacks and threats motivated solely by the desire to hurt me – the worst form of partisan politics.”
In December, Biden pardoned his son Hunter after promising not to do so. Hunter was convicted in two criminal cases late last year.
The only family members missing from the list Monday were wife Jill and daughter Ashley.

Biden was not the first to pardon family members, with President Bill Clinton acquitting his brother Roger on drug charges after he served a sentence.
In the final weeks of his first term, Trump also pardoned Charles Kushner, the father of his son-in-law Jared.
Last December, Biden also commuted the sentences of nearly 1,500 people in what was the largest single-day act of clemency in modern history.
A commutation reduces the sentence served, but does not erase a conviction or imply innocence, the Justice Department said.
One of those whose sentences were commuted was Marvin Gabrion, who was awaiting execution for the 1997 rape and murder of Rachel Timmerman.
from Timmerman Father Tim lashed out at the ex-president at the time for the decisionand describes it as ‘despicable’.
Following his last-minute pardons of family members, David Axelrod, the mastermind behind Obama’s rise to power, branded them “egregious.”
Speaking on the Hacks on Tap podcast, Axelrod had particular disdain for the pardons that were announced just minutes before Trump took office.
“I mean, man up! You know what I mean? Man up, and if you’re going to do it, do it, but don’t do it literally because you have one foot out the door so you don’t have to explain it or take responsibility for it, he said.

When Trump took office earlier this week, he quickly pardoned the January 6 rioters
The CNN commentator then explained why the pardon backfired on his former boss.
“And what they did was they gave Trump a gift because it clouded the story, the J6 story, for him, and you heard him last night,” he said.
Axelrod then asked, “Can you end a presidency as badly as he did?” I mean, Trump did that.”
President Trump had shown some restraint during his first term by pardoning 237 people.
However, when he took office earlier this week, he quickly pardoned the January 6 rioters, Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht and pro-life protesters.
Trump pardoned about 1,500 defendants in connection with the attack on the capital and issued six commutations. His total pardons now stand at over 1,700.
The pardon fulfills Trump’s promise to release supporters who tried to help him overturn his election defeat four years ago.
