Billy smiles at the camera and puts an arm on his father’s chest.

Sam also shares daughter Poppy, four, with Phoebe. They married in 2015 and broke up for the second time in October 2019.

Last month, Sam from Sydney was photographed in an evangelical church on the Gold Coast.

He was seen at Metro Church on March 21, two days after he was cleared by a judge of harassment of his former father-in-law Mitch Hooke.

‘I just met this legend Sam Burgess at Metro Church,’ a fellow worshiper posted on Instagram with a photo of the couple. “Congratulations Sam on his first step on a new journey.”

A source close to Sam said he “kept his head down” and “made a change.”

He was also seen last month with an evangelical church bodybuilding pastor walking to a Metro Church-registered Hyundai hatchback after getting coffee at a Nobby’s Beach cafe.

He has spent time training with friend and spiritual adviser, Rob Quatro, who introduced him to the Pentecostal faith, although Sam is only an interested bystander at this stage.

He was recently acquitted on appeal for harassment of his former father-in-law, Mitch Hooke.

A conviction for intimidating Mr Hooke was overturned by a judge of the New South Wales District Court.

He will appear in court again in May after allegedly being discovered driving with cocaine in his system while on his way to pick up his children from Bowral on February 22.

Sam was reportedly unlicensed while behind the wheel of his BMW X5, which was unregistered due to his failure to pay $ 1,200 in parking and traffic fines.

He has not publicly spoken about either reversing his conviction or how he will deal with the upcoming charges.

Sam’s personal life has been in turmoil since his divorce from wife Phoebe and forced retirement from a chronic shoulder injury in October 2019.

That same month, Sam was accused by Hooke of threatening him while visiting his two children at the Hooke family’s home in the Southern Highlands.

A year later, the Australian newspaper published untested claims against Sam of wild partying and domestic violence during his marriage. He has denied the allegations.

Sam saw Judge Mark Williams recant his harassment conviction in Goulburn court through an audiovisual link, as did Mr. Hooke.

“In reading the evidence, I firmly believe the Crown case is not beyond a reasonable doubt,” Judge Williams ruled.

Sam’s attorney Bryan Wrench said out of court that his client was relieved by the result.

“This is the verdict he deserves,” said Mr. Wrench. He never wanted this fight, but he had to fight to clear his name. He is innocent and ultimately justified. ‘
