A large-scale emergency operation is underway after two people on a yacht sent out a distress signal.
The couple on board the yacht, which is located about 185 kilometres east of Nowra on the New South Wales south coast, made emergency contact at 12.40pm on Monday.
A New South Wales Ambulance spokesman told the Daily Mail that crews from Australia are on their way to assist the yacht.
“We have sent two helicopter teams. They made initial contact but had to turn back due to fuel shortages,” he said.

There is also a RAAF C130 aircraft which departed later and made contact with the yacht at 4.30pm.
‘Royal Australian Navy ships Arunta and Canberra are also en route to the scene.’
HMAS Arunta is expected to arrive at the yacht at around 6pm on Monday evening.
