Thousands of Oasis fans were left furious at missing out on tickets due to the new “dynamic pricing” model on Saturday – and the initiative is now turning to football.

Following the announcement of Oasis’ long-awaited reunion last week, tickets for their concerts went on sale over the weekend, but after waiting patiently in line for hours, fans discovered that prices had doubled over the course of the day due to high demand.

The plan was called “dynamic pricing” and was widely criticized by the public because ticket prices rose rapidly within minutes.

But Spanish club Valencia seem to think it’s a good idea and have announced plans to trial it in their future matches with the “support and technology of LaLiga”.

A statement confirming the decision said: ‘One of the new features for the 2024-25 season will be the implementation of dynamic pricing for ticket purchases.

‘Following the global trend in shows, sporting events and entertainment, Valencia CF will join this practice, which has the support and technology of LaLiga.

‘Tickets will therefore be put on sale at a base price, which may increase over the days, always subject to various parameters such as the occupation of the stadium surface and the proximity of the date, among others.

‘Buying your tickets in advance will guarantee you the best price! Plan ahead and get your tickets in the best area and at the best price. You can check the prices online.’

The new pricing model is unlikely to be welcomed by match-going fans, who will now have to pay large sums of money if they choose to purchase a last-minute ticket for a match.

Ticket prices have been under scrutiny in the UK in recent months, but Premier League clubs have yet to implement dynamic pricing – for now.

West Ham have been criticised for their “disgraceful” pricing ahead of their game against Premier League champions Manchester City at the weekend.

Ticket information published in July revealed that under-18s could be charged up to £120, with fans complaining that the prices were “driving families out of the game”.

Celtic fans also mocked Rangers for their ticket prices when they faced Manchester United in a pre-season friendly in July.

Despite United fielding a weakened squad, with many of its players having played at Euro 2024 or the Copa America, fans had to pay up to £58 to watch the game at Murrayfield.
