Nottingham Forest have confirmed the signing of French defender Giulian Biancone from Ligue 1 side Troyes.

The 22-year-old started his career with Monaco and was loaned to Belgium’s Cercle Bregge for two years before making a permanent move to Troyes last summer.

Biancone is signing a three-year deal as Forest boss Steve Cooper continues to prepare for the club’s return to the Premier League.

“I am very happy to join a club like Nottingham Forest after a good experience with my former club Troyes,” said Biancone on Forest’s official website.

“I know it’s a big club, very well known all over Europe and I’m very excited to join the club, with its big fan base and history.

“After speaking with the Head Coach, it is clear that exciting times lie ahead and I am looking forward to joining my new team-mates and getting started in the Premier League.”

Cooper added: ‘Giulian is a very talented defender who has attracted a lot of interest from clubs across Europe,’ said Nottingham Forest Head Coach Steve Cooper. “He has proven himself at the highest level in France and Belgium in recent years and he recognizes what we want to build in Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

“He is a versatile defender who is a very strong asset to the centre-back or right and we are delighted to welcome him to Nottingham Forest.”

Biancone is of course a right-back and can play anywhere in defense, finishing last season as the left central defender in Troyes’ back three.

Djed Spence, last season’s best player, is on the cusp of moving from Middlesbrough to Tottenham, while midfielder Jack Colback was knocked out of position as a left-back as Forest earned promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

Biancone is Forest’s third signing since his promotion to the Premier League, having already added former Liverpool forward Taiwo Awoniyi and Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson to their ranks.
