US professional golfer John Daly stripped the first PGA championship run on Thursday, posting a +2 round in an eventful eighteen fueled by cigarettes, coke and M&M’s.

The 56-year-old cult hero teed off at 6:56 a.m. in the first pool of the main tournament in Oklahoma, momentarily leading the pack after two birdies in his first five holes.

The two-time Grand Slam champion finished the first round tied for 56th, but it was his diet on the course that wowed fans.

The 56-year-old has driven a car around the tour since 2019, after osteoarthritis in his right knee prevented him from walking the full 18.

21 cigarettes

12 Diet Coke

6 packages of Peanut M&Ms

CBS sportswriter Will Brinson tweeted his hawk-eye findings of Daly’s diet, taking “meticulous notes every time he reached for his golf bag, took a bite, sip, or puff.”

“Final tally of literally everything you put in your body for a full 18 holes: 21 cigarettes, 12 Diet Cokes, 6 packets of Peanut M&M’s, 0.0 oz of water,” Brinson tweeted.

After the round, Daly was fulfilling his sponsorship commitments to the infamous American restaurant chain Hooters.

The national icon, who is known for his beer drinking stories and tee time drama, is off to a below-average start to the PGA season.

Playing on the PGA Champions Tour last week, Daly was disqualified from the Regions Tradition tournament for forgetting to sign his scorecard, an instant loss in professional golf.

While Daly doesn’t exhibit the standard tour physique, he can afford the luxuries of cigarettes and chocolate, having been cleared to drive a buggy on tour in 2019 due to osteoarthritis in his right knee.

Known for his long tee shots, Daly hasn’t made a PGA cut since 2012.

After 10 holes, Daly sat at -3, turning back the clock to his 1991 PGA championship win.

His first three rides of the day were over 300 meters, where he would walk back to his cart with a large McDonald’s soda in the cup holder and head out into the fairway, his caddy having to follow him on foot.

Daly’s career has been full of wins to go along with his crazy stories.

In 2004, Daly beat then world number two Tiger Woods in the Target World Challenge after sinking three bottles of Crown Royal whiskey the night before.

Daly tees off Friday at 1:25 pm US time for the second round of the PGA Championship.
