Furious McDonald’s customers have taken to social media to vent their frustration after an IT outage left them unable to order food.

The worldwide problem began early on Friday morning, but within just a few hours Britons had been complaining online.

One user wrote on Twitter: ‘You have ruined my morning McClowns. I have eaten here daily and was denied my McMuffin due to your garbage system being down.

‘I thought you had stopped Roland McDonald’s persona years ago.’

Another person commented on their fury at the situation: ‘Soooo, for the first time in ages I’m craving a delicious McMuffin… order online, drive to McD’s and… you have a nationwide failure?

‘How about you then lock the app until it’s sorted instead of letting people order? Just a thought?’

The McDonald’s UK app noticed an increase in problems from around 05.00 Friday

Another user expressed disappointment that they ‘couldn’t even serve a latte this morning’.

McDonald’s has so far not given an official comment on the widespread question.

But a McDonald’s UK spokesman said they were ‘looking into’ the issue.

A system used to monitor IT problems for businesses, Downdetector, noticed an increase in problems with the McDonald’s UK app from around

In 2018, McDonald’s said the company serves an average of 3.5 million customers a day in the UK.

But the problem has also been reported around the world, including in Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

Another user took to social media to question why McDonald’s couldn’t continue to take pen and paper orders after the digital shutdown.

They moaned that they ‘hadn’t had their McBreakfast today’ because of the mistake.

However, it is believed that not all stores have been affected by the outage and a small number continue to operate in the affected countries.

But the problem has also been reported by media organizations in China and Sweden. Other social media users posted the same issue in Germany and Austria.

In Japan, the company apologized to customers on social media and said they might have to ‘wait a while’ before the issues were resolved.

McDonald’s in Japan, which has around 3,000 stores in the country, said: ‘There is currently a system error. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and ask you to please wait for some time until the service is restored.’

A McDonald’s Australia spokesman said it was “aware of a technology outage” currently affecting stores across the country.

One manager in the country wrote on Reddit that his store continued to accept orders by writing them down on paper while other locations decided to close.

The IT disruption comes after McDonald’s UK and Ireland announced it will undergo its most significant menu change for decades as the chain celebrates its 50th anniversary.

In the huge shake-up, the restaurant will make recipe changes to its beloved beef burgers, promising they will be ‘better than ever’.

Fan favorites that will see changes include the Big Mac, Quarter Pounder with cheese, and of course the classic Cheeseburger varieties, including double and triple.

The shake-up comes 50 years after the first set of golden arches appeared on a British high street in 1974.

The restaurant in Woolwich was the first McDonald’s in the UK and offered customers ‘The United Tastes of America’.

And the recipe change isn’t the only big change – the news comes just after McDonald’s launched a new personalized ‘inclusive’ uniform that allows staff to wear the clothes ‘they feel most comfortable in’.
