Norwich City legend Jeremy Goss has revealed he is “lucky to be alive” after being involved in a “scary car accident”.

The former Wales international was driving in Norfolk when he was hit by a car, according to the Norwich Evening News.

He said he saw a blue car driving “well over the speed limit” approaching him while he was driving on January 31.

Goss, now 58, played for Norwich between 1984 and 1886, competing in the Premier League and the UEFA Cup.

He said: “I was in the left lane, I looked in the rear view mirror and saw this blue car heading straight towards me, going well over the speed limit.”

“I spontaneously gripped the steering wheel as hard as I could, so much so that I later discovered I had broken a bone in my ring finger, and buried my chin in my chest expecting the worst.

‘The car hit me from behind like an explosion; The sound was terrifying.

“From then on I didn’t know which direction I was going, but I know the airbags went off and I was hit a second time before I finally stopped about 100 meters later.”

Goss described how he ended up on a grass shoulder on the left side of the road and quickly got out, worried the car might be on fire.

He said he was in pain, at first fearing he had broken his back, but he was desperate to get out and collapsed on the grass.

Goss added: “Before I knew it a fire truck and an ambulance showed up followed by the police.

“I feel lucky to be alive honestly.”

Goss was driving between the Norwich Aviation Museum and a roundabout near the airport.

The former midfielder played an important role in the most successful era in Norwich’s history.

He was part of the Norwich team that came third in the inaugural Premier League season, sharing a dressing room with Chris Sutton.

That meant they played in their only European campaign to date, the 1993/94 UEFA Cup, where they reached the third round.

He scored a volley against Bayern Munich in Germany, helping the Canaries to a historic 2-1 victory.
