A pedestrian has died after a car ran onto a sidewalk and footpath at a busy intersection in Brisbane.

Emergency services were rushed to the scene on the corner of Dethridge St and Melton Rd in Northgate, in the city’s north, at around 5.30am on Wednesday.

The seriously injured pedestrian could not be revived and died at the scene.

Accident investigation officers remain at the scene as they try to piece together what happened.

Officers were seen interviewing witnesses and taking photographs of the accident scene, including the damaged car on the sidewalk.

The driver is talking to the police.

Melton Road was reduced to one lane, causing rush hour delays.
