A boy is missing after being attacked by a crocodile, prompting an urgent search on land and water.

The 12-year-old boy was reportedly attacked near the remote community of Palumpa in the Northern Territory, 360 kilometres southwest of Darwin, at about 5.30pm on Tuesday.

Northern Territory Police were called to the scene after receiving reports that the boy had been attacked by a crocodile.

“Initial reports indicated the boy had been attacked by a crocodile,” police said.

‘Members of the community and police from Peppimenarti responded to the scene and began searching for the boy, who has not yet been located.’

Police have launched a land and water search for the boy, which could also be expanded to an air search.

Northern Territory Police Senior Sergeant Erica Gibson and local officers along with those from the nearby community of Wadeyewere were assisting with the search on Wednesday.

“Local officers are on the scene and our thoughts are with the family and community,” Northern Territory Police Senior Sergeant Erica Gibson said.

‘Officers are currently searching a large section of the creek by boat and we thank the community for their continued assistance.’
