Nearly a dozen guests became seriously ill with gastronomic symptoms and six were rushed to hospital after being exposed to a “toxic substance” at an 80th birthday party.
Up to 64 guests arrived at the party on Hope Street in Norman Park, Brisbane, at 3.30pm on Sunday.
Emergency services were immediately called after several guests began experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms, including fatigue, dizziness and nausea.
Ten guests were observed by paramedics at the scene before half a dozen were taken to the Mater, Princess Alexandra or QEII hospitals.
