A man died after jumping from a bridge in what police believe was a case of misadventure.

Queensland Police received a report about 1am on Sunday that an adult man had jumped from the Noosa Sound Bridge at Noosa Pde and was unable to surface.

Police divers searched for the man in the Noosa River and his body was recovered at around 6am.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Queensland Ambulance Service also attended the scene at around 1.15am but were unable to locate the man.

The tragic death comes after several warnings from police against jumping from the bridge.

Despite warnings that jumping from the Sound Bridge could lead to serious injuries, it remains a popular tourist activity.

Now-retired Master Sergeant Peter Feldman previously explained what makes the activity so risky.

“They are not only risking their own lives, but also those of people passing by in boats,” he said. Noosa News.

‘It is a crime to jump from certain structures and they are breaking the law.

“It is not the height of the bridge that makes it dangerous, but the way they can fall.

“It only takes a fall of a couple of meters to seriously injure someone.”
