An Uber driver has been branded “incredibly stupid” by a judge after allegedly waving a water pistol that looked like a gun outside Parliament.

Dozens of officers gathered at the Sydney CBD building on Thursday afternoon after Waqar Hassan Virk, 28, allegedly pulled out an imitation ‘Glock’ water pistol and fired it from inside his car.

Virk appeared at Downing Center Local Court via video link on Friday morning, where the court heard he allegedly drove behind Parliament House, stuck his arm out of the window with the fake gun and fired a substance. , which is believed to be water.

His alleged actions were strongly condemned by magistrate Greg Grogan, who said it was fortunate he was not Tasered or shot by police.

“I have no idea why a person would take an object like that to such a high-profile location and wave it around… I don’t understand why they would do it and think it was OK,” said Magistrate Grogan, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

“If there was a crime of committing a very stupid act in public, Virk would certainly plead guilty at the first available opportunity.”

Virk had bought the gun on Tuesday as a gift for his nephew in Pakistan, where he sends money to his family.

The 28-year-old man had walked away from Parliament before officers arrived.

He was arrested four hours later near Sydney Airport and charged with possession of an unauthorized firearm.
